Refinery Artspace Graduate Artist Residency Programme Sponsor http://www.hflaw.co.nz/ Applicant Information

Introduction

Refinery Artspace is an initiative of Kahurangi Employment Trust, whose main objective is providing sustainable employment to those people who are disadvantaged in the employment sector

Refinery Artspace is situated in a renovated 1930≠s industrial building in the centre of Nelson city. This building houses offices for the Refinery Artspace staff, studios and two gallery spaces, one being a generous wooden floored space with a high stud and timber trusses, the other a more moderate sized space suitable for smaller exhibitions.

The Graduate Artist Residency Programme offers a studio space and support network for two graduates for a period of 10 months. The residency has been established to help bridge the gap between graduation and a professional career as a practicing artist. The Graduate Artist Residency Programme provides: Rent-free workshop space for two graduates of the NMIT Bachelor of Visual Arts and Design for a 10 month period The opportunity to have an exhibition of work at the Refinery Artspace

Agreement: Resident Graduates will be required to sign an agreement in relation to the residency. The conditions in the agreement are intended to ensure the graduates understand the expectations of Refinery Artspace in relation to the residency. All expenses, other than rent, water and power, are to be met by the Graduate Resident. There is some furniture available in the studios and Residents will need to supply any additional furniture, including tables, benches, tools and equipment. It is expected that the Refinery Artspace will from time to time have visitors who wish to see the artists in their studios. The studios are upstairs and are not suitable for heavy or industrial-type processes. Potential applicants should contact the Refinery Artspace prior to making an application to visit the studios and ensure they meet their needs.

Mentorship: (subject to funding) Subject to funding: Resident Graduates may be provided with a mentor, who will provide up to 20 hours of consultation. The mentor will be an experienced arts practitioner who has an established arts career. The mentor will support the resident graduate in developing their skills as an independent professional arts practitioner.
